zebra363 did this 2011 Year in Review meme thingy. I liked it. So I stole it. I wanted to also take this opportunity to say thanks to my flist. And to wish you all a very happy New Year - if your 2011 was not good enough to remember fondly then make sure you see the year's end with a suitably high percentage of alcohol content in your drink. I wanted to say thanks to the new friends who have added me, to the new friends I have met and to the old ones who have continued to enrich my life.
Looking forward to watching these badass sexy mofos in a new episode next weekend :)
ETA: New Loki vid linked below - just so Awwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!
1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
I ran a dog in a World Agility event in Clevedon, Bristol, UK! Met Jared and Jensen. Saw a real live Canadian Ice Hockey game. Saw Matt Nathanson in concert and met him. Saw a Broadway musical. Ran on a treadmill for 15 minutes non stop. Lost 23 kilos.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any new years resolutions - I find the very nature of them to have built in obsolescence so I prefer to make life style changing decisions on no particular date. I did make a decision to lose weight and get fit and drink more water. Achieved and still ongoing.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not this year thankfully.
5. What countries did you visit?
England, Wales, United States, Canada
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
Better abdominal muscles and better financial organisation and less clutter. More training discipline. I need to rehome things I don't need or want. I started doing that and I need to keep going.
7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory?
May 13 through to 15 was the World Agility Open in the UK. That was pretty etched as was the date for the Season 7 premiere of Supernatural oh and the Toronto Con weekend date.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Losing 23 kilos and going down 4 clothing sizes. Making and keeping a commitment to go to the gym. It's been two months so far :)
9. What was your biggest failure?
Failing to make myself clear in an email. Sounds innocuous I know but trust me, this failure has cost me big time.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope, apart from slight calf muscle tear.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Ummm this one is HARD! I partially purchased my birthday iPad2 and I LOVE it...but I'm thinking my Jared Padalecki wall canvas bought at charity auction at Torcon.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Oh plenty of peoples'. I liked Obama's stance on the DADT issue. I definitely applauded when a Labor Party conference overwhelmingly supported an in conscience vote to support same sex marriage. I liked it when Murdoch got shown up to be the insidious character he is.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Several peoples'. Lately the woman who threw a puppy out of a window 15 feet off the ground is one. Generally any animal cruelty acts will elicit those reactions from me. Along with people who kill/harm/torture others especially in the name of religion.
14. Where did most of your money go?
On travel this year.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The World Agility Open! and Supernatural and New York and Toronto and meeting Jared and Jensen and fellow fangirls.
16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Any of Adele's big hits and now Coldplay's Paradise.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? About the same, I tend to be a pretty happy person most of the time. Life is way too short not to be.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner :)
iii. richer or poorer? About the same, maybe a little richer thanks to an inheritance.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Walking and training the dogs, more running, more sorting. Talking with
netlynn.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating maybe? Perhaps being stuck in unproductive meetings with adults who should behave better.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
With family enjoying German Christmas meal on Christmas Eve and with my family on Christmas Day.
21. Who did you meet for the first time?
zebra363 and my agility idol Linda Mecklenberg and some of the Supernatural cast and fannish friends from Toronto, NYC and Nunavut, Canada. Plus my host dog's family in Wales and other fellow agility addicts.
22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
Yes, with NYC, Canada and Canadians and Matt Nathanson's new album and with Season 7 and with travel. Shopping in America.
23. How many one-night stands?
Zero.
24. What was your favourite TV program?
Supernatural
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nah - that's just way too much energy although I will allow that I have worked up to some intense dislike for some. These moments are fleeting.
26. What was the best book you read?
Biff - The Gospel According to Biff - Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore - haven't laughed this much reading a book since Gerald Durrell's My Family and Other Animals.
26a. Favourite fanfiction story?
Holy crap! How do you choose? I'm coming back to this one. I loved all of
obstinatrix's stuff this year. And also anything
candle_beck or
fleshflutter does is amazing.
26b. Favourite vid?
Anything by
ash48 and by
secretlytodream ETA!!!! Like this one Loki just posted:
D'Awwwwwwwww!!!!!
26c. Favourite fan artwork?
Well I initially didn't have anything picked out but then
zebra363 answered this question and now I have one! Here:
tringic's very NSFW
Sam/Dean "New Art".
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Oh my - there was a lot this year. Things that got repeated the most was Matt Nathanson's Modern Love album, Florence and the Machine - Lungs, Coldplay's latest, Adele - 21, Soundtrack to The Crimson Wing (a documentary on Flamingoes).
28. What did you want and get?
iPad2 :) To attend a Supernatural convention. To get fitter and lose weight. To compete at the WAO.
29. What did you want and not get?
To put an Agility Champion title on Spryte, that's definitely on the cards for next year. A Supernatural crossover with American Horror Story or Dexter. Organisation in my life's paperwork. Adults who should behave better.
30. What was your favourite film of the year?
Hmmmmm. You know what? The quality of TV was such this year as that I guess I don't have a stand out one. The King's Speech was bloody brilliant. But so was True Grit.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 37. And I had Daisy Peel (top US International Agility competitor/instructor) from the US staying with me, so I was walking, talking, living and breathing agility that weekend.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Hmmm....maybe losing more weight and getting that Agility Champion title.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
A little different now that a wider range of clothes are available to me. But still generally the same. Non florally and not completely girly.
34. What kept you sane?
Chatting with
netlynn, hanging out with fangirls, meeting new fannish friends, Supernatural and it's brilliant, zany and wonderful fandom.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jared Padalecki. I just can't even...that man is too good to be true. I need to grill Jensen and Genevieve about his annoying flaws because just speculating on them doesn't seem to lessen his shine at all. It's ridiculous.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The idiotic back and forth about the legalisation of gay marriage. It's not a big enough issue to warrant this much debate time. It's a basic human right and the world will not end in a fiery apocalypse despite all rhetoric to the contrary.
37. Who did you miss?
My adopted Uncle David and my sister Nicole who is working in Singapore now.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.
Always, always ALWAYS quadruple check your emails to make sure your meaning is clear. Use short sentences and be concise. Also that I seem to have a much more zen attitude to life's frustrations than people much older than me seem to possess and I should stop being surprised by that.
39. Something new that worked out really well for you during the year:
My youngest girl, Savvy who has turned 2. She is working out to be a fantastic agility dog (even quicker than her Mum) and a very lovable family member. She's also very photogenic. Teaching Supernatural to my 9th graders.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Don't want to see another generation drop
I'd rather be a comma than a full stop
From Coldplay's most recent album effort - Every Teardrop is a Waterfall. It kind of sums up my whole teaching approach this year :)
40A. (My usual replacement question for 40) Most useful piece of advice or comment you received:
Hmmm. Caloric deficit ultimately more important than exercise when trying to fat burn.
